Overview

A certificate is a program at the undergraduate level that is tailored for students who aspire to acquire technical skills in their chosen field of study. This program is focused on imparting knowledge and equipping students with specialized vocational and technical skills. Typically completed at a tertiary level, the program requires a full-time commitment of one year.

Aim

The qualification enables a graduate to utilize a combination of technical and theoretical knowledge in various contexts to engage in advanced skilled or paraprofessional tasks and as a stepping stone for further education. 

Knowledge and skills

A graduate at this stage should possess a solid foundation of technical and theoretical knowledge, with a deeper understanding of specific areas within a particular field of work and study. A graduate at this level should possess:

  • Cognitive and communication abilities to recognize, analyze, combine, and respond to information from diverse sources;
  • Cognitive, technical, and communication abilities to analyze, strategize, create, and assess solutions to unforeseen problems and/or managerial needs;
  • Specialized technical and creative abilities to articulate ideas and viewpoints; and
  • Communication abilities to convey knowledge and specialized skills to others and exhibit comprehension of knowledge.

Professional Aptitude

A graduate at this level should showcase the utilization of knowledge and skills:

  • To apply and implement theoretical concepts, and technical or creative skills in various scenarios;
  • For personal accountability and independence in executing complex technical tasks with accountability for individual outcomes within specified parameters for quantity quality; and

 

  • For innovation and discernment to coordinate one’s work and that of others, and strategize, organize, and assess team efforts within broad yet generally well-defined boundaries.

The academic workload has a minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) Credits.
